The Sanno festival is one of the three largest festivals in Japan, is finally approaching next week!
Konichiwa everyone this is Chika Koiwa Again.
This time I will introduce you “Sanno Matsuri" (Festival) which is a very famous festival in Tokyo!
The Sanno Matsuri is famous as a festival permitted by the Shogun, the general in Edo era, to enter the floats and Mikoshi (portable shrines) into the Edo castle during the Edo Period, along with the Kanda Matsuri. The Sanno festival is one of two festivals lined with the Kanda festival.
About 300 people dressed in ancient costumes will parade through the heart of Tokyo including Ichigaya, Imeperial palace, and Tokyo station. You will also see people dressed as the legendary goblin called Tengu. (LOL)
The procession which departs from Hie-jinja shrine at 7:30 in the morning walk many places in Tokyo until 5 o’clock in the evening.
The highlights of this festival are costume parade on 8th and Mikoshi parade on 10th. Those are wonderfully breathtaking, brings a lifetime experience.
During the Matsuri (Festival), you can also experience various traditions of japan. Like a, there are displays of flowers arranged in Japanese style known as Ikebana, and special tables and seats are set up in the shrine garden so that you can savor Japanese tea.
In Matsuri you might also see people going through a large ring made of thatch, which is believed to purify the sins you have unconsciously committed in the past 6 months. Papers made doll you hold as you stroke your body and pass through the ring is said to take on your various sins for you. You must write your name and age on paper made doll and blow 3 times on the doll for next 6 months of the year in peace and happiness. The event is scheduled 30th of June.
This time, 2018, we are proud that we had a chance to support the festival and decorate two of Chochin, Japanese lantern, as like member ship.
